Habitat for Humanity - Long Beach

FINALLY !!!

By Ted Reiff

To accommodate friends of TRP in Southern California, we now have a warehouse in the Los Angeles area. It's actually owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity-Long Beach, but they have agreed to sell our used building materials.

The Habitat warehouse, which goes by the name Home Improvement ReStore, will be opening later this month. It is located at 17700 Figeroa on the corner of 182nd in the city of Carson.

In the ReStore you will find the best of both worlds-traditional Habitat building materials (usually new or semi-new) along with TRP's used and vintage materials. What more could you ask? Well, perhaps one other thing, and you'll get that too: legendary Habitat for Humanity customer service. When you go to the ReStore, ask for Manager Dave McKechnie, and tell him you are a friend of TRP. He will probably give you a good deal. The bargain may be restricted to TRP-generated material, but what the heck -a good deal is a good deal, right?

A direct phone line to the ReStore will be operational later this month. In the meantime, you can reach Habitat's affiliate office at (562) 427-4663. They will be more than happy to assist you.

All materials from Los Angeles projects listed in TRP's e-letter and on our web-site will be delivered to Dave to help him stock the ReStore. Please let us know what you think of the TRP-Habitat collaboration. We are discussing similar relationships with other Habitat chapters and are interested in your thoughts.

Special of the Month

Lumber is our biggest-selling building material, and we don't often have oversupplies. However, due to a spate of recent jobs, we're currently overstocked. Sooo, COME AND GET IT. Bring a copy of this e-letter and receive 10% off on your choice of lumber. Get an additional 10% off on purchases of lumber greater than $1,000. Offer good through August 31, 2004.

New Inventory

We have a large supply of 6x6 and 6x4 glass blocks. Great stuff, especially for that "retro" look.

The conference is sponsored by U.S. EPA, the Used Building Materials Association, and others. Please visit the conference website at www.decon04.com for more information.

On Saturday, September 18, we will be a presenter-and staff a booth-at the Green Building Fair 2004 sponsored by the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Northern California Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council and the City of San Jose. This program will be held at the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, California.
